Parents & Families Support

  • PFLAG: PFLAG National is the umbrella organization for PFLAG chapters across the country.

  • COLAGE: COLAGE is a national movement of children, youth, and adults with one or more lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or queer (LGBTQ) parent/s.

  • Straight Spouse Network: An international organization that provides personal, confidential support and information to heterosexual spouses/partners, current or former, of gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender mates and mixed-orientation couples for constructively resolving coming-out problems.
  • Atticus Circle: Dedicated to educating and mobilizing straight allies to advance equal rights for lesbians, gay, bisexual and transgender partners, parents and their children.
  • LGBT Directory of Services and Resources: A comprehensive listing of NYC LGBTQhealth, support, and general interest organizations.
  • ACLU’s Get Busy/Get Equal: Information and resources to improve the lives of LGBT people.
  • Trans Family: TransFamily provides support, education, advocacy, and outreach for the transgendered community, families, friends, partners, and allies of all ages, through meetings, presentations, seminars, media outreach, and an emergency resource hotline.

 

Educators

  • Gay & Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN): Lesson plans, curricular tools, and information on teacher training programs.
  • Safe Schools Coalition: The Safe Schools Coalition is an international public-private partnership in support of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth, that is working to help schools - at home and all over the world - become safe places where every family can belong, where every educator can teach, and where every child can learn, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.
  • GSA Network: Gay-Straight Alliance Network is a youth leadership organization that connects school-based Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs) to each other and community resources through peer support, leadership development, and training.

LGBT Youth

  • LGBT Community Center: The Youth Enrichment Services (YES) program exists at the LGBT Center to provide LGBT young people with community support to foster healthy development, in a safe, affirming, sex-positive, alcohol- and drug-free environment.
  • GLBTNearMe: Find local social and support resources within the LGBT community.
  • Trevor Project: Leading national organization focused on crisis and suicide prevention efforts for LGBTQ youth. They operate a 24 hour nationwide hotline to provide assistance.
  • GLBT National Help Center: Provides free and confidential telephone and internet counseling, information and local resources for LGBTQ callers.
  • FIERCE NYC: FIERCE is a membership-based organization building the leadership and power of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) youth of color in New York City.
  • Twenty Something NYC: Social experience for LGBT New Yorkers 18-33.
  • LGBT Directory of Services and Resources: A comprehensive listing of NYC LGBTQhealth, support, and general interest organizations.
  • The Ali Forney Center: Providing shelter, food, and resources for at risk or homeless LGBT youth.
  • The Door: Empowering young people to reach their potential. Specific outreach to LGBT youth.
  • Hetrick-Martin Institute: Providing a safe school environment for LGBTQ youth aged 12-21.
  • Callen-Lorde Community Health Center’s Health Outreach To Teens (HOTT): A confidential and safe onsite and van health service for LGBTQ youth 13-24.
  • National Youth Advocacy Coalition: A national organization seeking to strenghten the role of LGBTQ youth in the broader gay rights movement.
  • LGBT Campus: Provides resources to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni.
  • Sylvia’s Place: Emergency overnight shelter for LGBTQ youth.
  • GSA Network: Gay-Straight Alliance Network is a youth leadership organization that connects school-based Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs) to each other and community resources through peer support, leadership development, and training.
